Cathlamet Public Library’s Summer reading program began June 16 at Erickson Park. The program had three separate Beanstack challenges for readers: Cathlamet 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten for ages 0-5, Cathlamet Summer 2021: Tails and Tales -Animal Books for Kids ages 5-15 (Minutes), and Cathlamet 2021 Reading Challenge (Minutes) for ages 15-Adult. The Tails and Tales children’s program allowed participants to earn prizes as they logged reading minutes, reviewed books, and attended activity events. The teen through adult program ran through the end of the year, and allowed readers to earn tickets they applied to drawings for their choice of a Kindle, a quilt, and other items.
Registration was open at cathlamet.beanstack.org for the program which was partially sponsored by the Blanche Bradley Memorial Library Foundation. The library challenged readers to set personal or family daily reading goals and log each day the goals were met. Readers also logged reading minutes or books, by downloading the free Beanstack app.
Besides the online reading challenge, the library hosted in-person outdoor activity events for children ages 5-15 on Wednesdays, June 16th-August 4th, from 1-2pm+ at Erickson Park on Columbia Street in Cathlamet. Activities included story times, and crafts. A parent or guardian needed to accompany children.
